Canon Digital Rebel XSI Slr Camera 12.2 MP Digital
great camera, one the best low (more) end Digital Slr on the market
My journey with DSLRs began in 2003 with the rebels of origin digital. DSLRs changed my photography for the better like nothing else. Five years and some 25,000 shots later, is still strong. On the way I made Modified Canon 30D, which is a fantastic camera as well. When 40D was announced, I decided to wait until the 50D in during 2009, but he wanted a backup player to the second body for my photography needs. Thus, when the XSi/450D was announced, he looked like a perfect fit for my needs.
I have it on Amazon.com three days ago, and trained very well since then have earned about 650 photographs on a variety of shooting conditions and a number of different objectives of Canon and other manufacturers. Here are my impressions.
The construction is very good. The camera feels wonderfully light yet well built. I'm 6 feet tall with medium sized businesses hands and camera feels good in your hand. The power grip, to me, defeats the purpose of having a small digital SLR camera, the light, so I opted for a Hakuba / Optek Grip (it's a plate that screws into the tripod socket that allows you to use the excellent Canon E1 hand strap with it) and I do could not be happier. I I'm not a fan of neck straps, so it works well for me (see photo uploaded on the configuration).
Most of the menu buttons at the back feel different from those of the original Digital Rebel and 30D, the XSi buttons feel more tactile and have a "click" when pressed. The only exception are the Exposure Lock (*) and AF selector buttons, which have retained the deeper, softer cameras. Just different, neither better nor worse for me.
The LCD is now 3 "with 230 000 pixels. Reading gorgeous images, and probably due to the higher resolution of the sensor, there is a very slight delay when you catch 10 times while the image is loaded and displayed properly. People of camera brands other or not even notice it – I just do it because of the difference between her and my other two DSLRs Canon (which have lower resolution sensors). The viewing angle Lcd Screen (which you can clearly see the screen on one side and high below) is excellent, you can still see the screen with the camera almost straight for a shot in head (latest). I think the angle of view is about 160 to 170 degrees horizontally and vertically.
The Digital Rebel has a separate status screen above the screen Main LCD, and the 30D had one on top of the camera, so I was not sure if you'll love the big screen as the status screen and no top screen. I am pleased to say that this arrangement works well, at least for me. The back screen makes it easy by taking all values a glance. The viewfinder is much larger and brighter than the Digital Rebel. Immensely a welcome feature for me is the ISO value always displayed in the viewfinder.
The camera is only half the equation of image quality, the other lenses being used. With my favorite lens, Canon EF 70-200mm f / 4 L telephoto lens, the XSi turns out fantastic images. The kit lens provided is very lightweight and compact for an objective image stabilization, and is a good performance. The IS is certainly very useful.
Two features which are often absent from the digital Rebel and available on more expensive digital SLRs are also in the XSi: spot metering and flash exposure compensation (perhaps available in the previous model Digital Rebel, the XTi, too). The inclusion of these two characteristics make the camera a much more comprehensive and convincing photographs. Timer function is now with a custom mode, where it will be a countdown of 10 seconds, then take a number of shots (Specified by the user) in succession. No tours the most common and back to reset the counter after every shot! There also the classic 2-second timer.
Let's talk a moment about the sensor values ISO. XSi/450D has five ISO values you can choose: 100 (best film), 200, 400, 800 and 1600. Increases the highest ISO the camera's light sensor, so you can achieve faster shutter speeed for lighting problem given. However, the disadvantage is that the sensor "noise" (think grain for film photography) increases with ISO, so you get a degraded image quality in exchange for less blur photos hand shakes (thanks to the shutter speed faster). This can be useful in situations where flash photography is not allowed, like a museum or concert or theater. However, from the point and Digital Cameras, sensors of digital Slr Cameras more, including the XSi, means that even at ISO 800 and 1600 obtained useful images to the right of the camera. The implementation of images taken at ISO settings by any number of programs to reduce noise will be third even better.
This relates to another very useful feature that makes life easier for XSi/450D photographer: The Auto ISO. Default Auto ISO sets the ISO (sensor sensitivity to light) between 100 and 800 (using custom functions, this can be changed 200 to 1,600). If so, for example, the game of basketball shooting children inside and you know you need a shutter speed at least 1 / 200 second to freeze the action, you can set the camera to TV (shutter priority mode) and set the value to 1 / 200, and set the camera to Auto ISO. Then the camera coincides with the opening and the ISO get exposure shutter speed appropriate. With my digital SLR others, setting the camera to shutter priority only allowed the camera to adjust the value opening, ISO had to be adjusted manually. XSi/450D with the ability of the device to adjust the ISO value is automatically one less thing to worry about the photographer.
I tested the Live View function to see how it works, but you can see how it will be useful in the studio and macro shooting. Just a note, you can half on the trigger autofocus while in Live View mode. It may or manual focus, or use one of the two autofocus methods, quick (the mirror is raised, the screen goes black for a short period, and turns down with the focus locked) or live (the camera uses contrast detection LCD screen to set the focus – this method is slower the quick method), both by pressing the lock button Exposure (*), all in Live View mode. Using the Remote Control or RS-60E3 Wired RC-1 wireless remote in Live View mode ONLY trigger the shutter, and not on the approach.
Some people seem to feel that the inclusion of Live View function allows them to use as they do XSi/450D point and shoot Digital Camera compose their shots. This is not the case. You can not really make a functioning use the Live View function unless the camera steady on a tripod or on a flat surface. Two Live View focusing modes, along with precise, are too slow to be used for shooting hand.
That said, there is a Live View shooting hand, I have come to appreciate. When making or an obstacle, I can, with the same hand with the camera, turn Live View compose the scene through the LCD screen (even if not developed, it is easy to get the right framing general), disable Live View, and take normal picture. With a little practice this can be done very quickly. Very useful when you're just not holding the camera head and the best hope.
The direct print button has been much maligned and ridiculed in most Canon cameras now double the white balance menu button. Button in the center of the four arrow keys can be programmed to respond to a number of different functions: change of image quality, exposure compensation Flash, LCD on / off screen (like the button on the screen, but can be triggered by the same hand with the camera), and the menu (again, can be triggered by the same hand the unit).
There is a dedicated ISO button, which is also welcome. Can easily access while the right thumb, which minimizes interruption of shot.
The battery life seems pretty good. I shot about 500 shots on one charge and the status monitor is still visible at full load.
I'm using Transcend 8GB Class 6 SDHC with him. At ISO 100, reporting device that can fit 396 RAW + JPG (High Quality) on it but in reality is likely to fit about 420 to 450 (the camera is always prudent in the estimate.) With RAW you can fit 507. JPG with the highest quality, which can hold 1822. Note that increasing the ISO, so the file size and therefore can not store less images per card. For example, in ISO 1600, the same card can only hold 323 images, compared to 396 at ISO 100.
My only complaint, and Better than me camera, is the RAW + JPG buffer. I always shoot in RAW + JPG, and the buffer will only hold four images at that speed (which is a limitation that is built in the buffer system of the camera, and therefore with a High Speed memory card does not help – see p. 64 this manual.) When the buffer is full, can take two additional images on an image for a second, then wait until the vacuum buffer (finishes writing to memory card). When shooting RAW and 6 photos. When shooting JPG only, then no problem in over 50 frames. I found myself changing the mode switch sports when I'm recording a moving object and the buffer simply can not continue with it. Well, that's why Canon produces different grades and ranks of digital SLR.
I downloaded a few I took photos of local wildlife. Most if not all of them were taken with the EF 70-200mm f / 4 L.
However, it is a fantastic camera. Pretty amazing how far digital SLR entry-level were a few years in terms of functions, interface, ergonomics and quality. I am very happy with my purchase and intend to have fun taking pictures with him.
Great camera, amazing battery life, now the perfect price!
I had the XSi for about 3 months and I am thouroughly impressed. This is my first DSLR and I was a little wary of going with a camera new and unproven, but I still like Canon (I used an ELAN II in high school and bought a SD600 about there 2 years to take pictures of my son). In general, I was not disappointed by the quality of the photos XSi product. The IS lens works very well and did some pretty amazing photos (at least for me). I have some questions, both good and bad, I think those who are considering may want to buy this knowledge.
Battery life – Great battery life. I must say, AMAZING battery life. I took over 5000 pictures and I only had to charge the battery twice.
Live View – LiveView is not for beginners. This is not a replacement for point and shoot. Can be used in AUTO mode (Green Square). It's not a big deal for me, I prefer full manual myself, but the main objective of this role, I thought, was to make it easier to use for point and shoot photographer. My wife can not use Live View in its current form (I specifically bought a digital SLR camera with Live View function so you can still use the camera.) So, if Live View is a selling point for you, you may want to consider some other (If there is such a great thing for you, then it's still an impressive camera – Added 23/04/2008). If you do studio work, however, you can connect the device to your PC and use it as a spectator at a distance. But there's a camera pointing and Shooting in Live View mode. In my previous opinion, said it would be nice if Canon fixed some issues with Live View to update the firmware, I 'm wrong. Live View is a nice feature once you understand that this is not for beginners. Studio photographers and landscape Live View is a wonderful tool.
Image Quality – I have had great success shooting in a studio and gunfire outside. In the study, who used tungsten "hot" lights with subjuect on a white background. The photos were very good. Skin tones are perfect and there is little or no chromatic aberration on the edges. It takes great pictures outside as well. We just got into beekeeping and I could take some photos of our incredible outdoors near Bee. The bees looked dirty and not very interesting from a distance, but the macro photos I got close they are beautiful and full of wonder in every detail. The lens is a little short, the image quality obtained from it is pretty good considering it only costs $ 100. I have plans to buy a longer focal length in the near future.
In general, the unit is solid and feels good in your hand. Not too heavy, but still going strong. If you can afford the higher price, I do not be disappointed. If not can the XTi is still a great camera. And if you can afford to wait several months for the price drops a bit (as already HA!) I would. I had the opportunity one weekend to allow extra work to do, and I can say I did not mind a little, because the quality pictures that I was totally worth it.

I was wrong when he said you could not use the autofocus 9-point in Live View mode. You can use the 9-point autofocus while in Live View, but the mirror and focus on what you can not see what they are trying to focus on after the camera has actually gone through the process of AF.
— Update # 2 —
Now I had this unit for almost two months and I am pleased to announce that the more you use, the more I love it. Once you learn the design of the device and charge the MyMenu with the tools you use most often, the camera becomes a pleasure to use. I took over 5000 pictures with it so far and now I need an additional Hard Drive to put them all on.
I could rent a Canon EF 24-105 L IS lens and a Speedlite 580 EX II for the marriage of my sister. WOW! What beautiful pictures. The flash interface of the device without any problems and I am more convinced than ever that many Quality photos are from the glass rather than using the camera itself (I think it's about 65% of the target of 35% the body of the camera plus or minus a few points – I know some will disagree, but that's my take on it, and I'm sure if I had a 1Ds MkIII, I think there was a piece of glass good enough for my camera.)
This is a digital SLR Camera High quality for beginners and a camera around. I am very happy with my purchase and I'm sorry this is not about spending $ 900 for buy a great tool. Amazon now sells for $ 799, you can not go wrong at this price!
Wonderful digital camera!
This device can not beat that price. I will not write a long review, but you can set your camera mode fully automatic and hand to a point and shoot "person, and get fantastic results. For the amateur photographer, which has all the bells and whistles I like is that you can quickly reset the camera to take a lot of the same scene in very different environments. Married with one decent photo program on your computer, you can produce professional results.
Many say that the comments, get this stabilization of the lens …. I totally agree … the extra $ 100 is a price negotiation for that purpose … It's almost (I say almost) as having tripod. I set the camera for 1/10th second exposures with no help, and got a stable picture with it slower than that, and stabilization the not quite correct for any instability.
We'd buy it again in a heartbeat, and I wish I could get one to everyone I know! The best pictures I took and a pleasure to use! Photos taken PC connection and download in seconds.
Get the SD card you can afford more with her … We have a 2 GB card with him, and fills quickly. 1 GB is too small for this camera (especially because it will be a lot of shots with it, not because the pictures take a lot of memory), 4GB guess would be almost perfect (or a couple of cards 2 GB, 4 GB, but it is more Naturally, the cards are too easy to lose).
