perfect camera for users of old Minolta!,
I use this unit for several weeks and I'm very impressed. What are the pros, in my opinion:
(1) The device is very light and balanced when using the lens of 18-55. My wife was very surprised by the weight, or lack thereof.
(2) Minolta Maxxum AF lenses work seamlessly with this camera! Telephoto I have two old (20 years) that produce incredible pictures with new Sony. My old zoom flash works too, although I must adjust the exposure manually. Despite the new Sony lenses are much lighter, better quality lenses can be purchased on auction sites at a fraction of the cost of new goals. Remember: it will be much heavier than modern optics today.
(3) The functions of the A330 as well as an automatic point and shoot the camera picture, but also allows the flexibility to configure everything manually if desired. I especially appreciate the ease of adjustment balance for shooting lights in changing lighting conditions. The depth of field was easy to adjust aperture priority.
(4) The picture quality is excellent. Viewing the HD output on my Sony Bravia via HDMI is an amazing way to preview photos. My changing TV remote even pictures on my camera as I look!
(5) There will be both an SD Memory Card and Memory Stick Pro Duo cards simultaneously. When it is full, the flip of a switch changes to another card. The memory is limited by the size of your portfolio.
(6) ISO 3200 does well in low light, although there is some grain.
Here are a few drawbacks:
(1) Some functions are buried in menus. This seems to be the course today for all manufacturers cameras.
(2) Upon passage of pixels camera with an 8 mega, it creates files 10.2 substantially larger. It is important to note that the pictures used, then set the resolution corresponding.
(3) The pop-up flash called the hat!
I researched more before purchasing this camera. The main selling point was the possibility of using my old Minolta, and tilt the screen back. This camera reminds me of my old 35 mm. It really feels like I'm back taking photos, rather than simply capturing digital images. Those who want or need more features should look at Sony's top end. However, for beginners and intermediate photographers, this should do the trick very good!
A comparison of past days … After more than 1000 shots, very very happy,
Ok, I spent days, literally, carefully comparing entry level SLR digital (Canon XS, XSi, Nikon D3000, D5000, Pentax kx) and have even made my own classification Excel spreadsheet for each technical advantages and disadvantages. Of course, I finally chose the A330, then I'll write this review from the perspective of why I chose this camera and I enjoyed it immensely.
Image quality
– Since we are looking for an entry level Digital Slr, the picture quality for all input levels is comparable (in my opinion). Since I am shooting a manual mode, the quality of my photos are really based on adjustments (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, light, etc.) so you will be able to leave good of all.
"In my opinion, the A330 and a little more unusual, because in manual mode, Sony has something called "Creative Style" where can you adjust your shot (colors, night photography, sunset, etc … and for each of these modes, the most to change the saturation, sharpness and contrast). See some of my photos in my profile!
Lenses
"It was a major reason Sony Alpha series of made my short list – or any of Sony Minolta Lens work with this unit. In addition, because the image stabilization built into the unit picture and not the goal, the cost is reasonable compared to other objectives. Therefore, any target that I can find on eBay to use (No need to worry if one or more Lens Sony Minolta lenses will work, then my options are endless).
Speed
– Despite Continuous shooting is not the fastest of its kind, is certainly useful. The first time I tried FPS, I thought it was something that was high on my list of features, but it is (unless you're a sports photographer of the event) when he pulled something even relativity, you end up with thousands of images, which will eventually simply delete most of them. Thus, 2.5 to 3 frames per second even faster than I need.
– As reported by respondents, the AF is super fast (with a 9-point AF), and switching between Live View and the optical viewfinder is very fast too!
Battery
– The battery is pretty decent, especially since I do not shoot with flash. But here is my work around to: I use a vertical grip, with a total of three batteries of trouble free ([...]). This grip allows the camera 2k-5k as a great camera and give 3XS battery.
A230 vs A330
– As those who have studied this well, the A230 is exactly the same camera as the A330 but no Live View and tilting Lcd Screen. I'm definitely getting the A230, the viewfinder is better, and the price is much cheaper. But I realized that I love you to live view shooting, because in manual mode, live view gives me an estimate of how the opening, orientation, shutter speed and ISO affect my shooting with the viewfinder vs. the A230, which do not show me all this (if you do viewer, I'm stuck waiting for preview performances, so I check and adjust each shot, etc.) So from the point of view Live saves me time and space in my card SC and to obtain images to the right of the first or second against 4 or 5 times!
I could write all about my experience with the A3000 A5000 and Nikon and Canon Xsi and XS, but I'll just say after testing all I prefer the Sony
ps I realize Nikon and Canon are more frequent Market DSLR, so I wanted to give a real opportunity for Sony – For your information, I have a Canon HD Video Camera, which I love better than all Sony, so for the video, definitely go with Canon Camera.
