renal function tests
Before discussing renal function, in medical terms of renal function (and is always a good practice run appropriate to use instead of the term secular), it is important to know why we do these tests. As we know kidney is one of the vital organs humanbody and complete at least four functions:
1 – elimination functions: it contributes to the excretion of waste products and drugs.
2 – Control functions: volume control and composition of body fluid.
3 – endocrine functions: It produces erythropoietin, renin, and prostaglandins.
4 – Metabolic functions: vitamin D and protein metabolize low molecular weight.
So now we know the importance real one healthy kidney. But if something bad happens to this vital organ, then this means that we will assess their work? The answer lies in the renal function tests, which tell us about the general situation of kidney functions.There are three main criteria of renal function, which will be discussed below, one by one:
1 - glomerular filtration rate (GFR)
FG provides a useful index of renal function overall. Measure the amount of plasma ultra filtered through the glomerular capillaries and corresponds to the kidneys' ability to filter liquids and substances different. FG Journal is in the range of 100-120 ml / min.
A glomerular filtration rate is low evidence of progressive renal disease and indicates a decrease the total mass of renal function. GFR was reduced in both acute and chronic renal failure.
GFR can be estimated creatinine clearance with the help of the formula:
Multiplied by C = U V / P, where:
C: creatinine clearance
U: Urinary Clearance mg / dl
mg plasma creatinine / dl: P
V: The rate of urine flow ml / min
Decreased GFR is expressed in the form of urea and raised serum creatinine. However, urea and serum creatinine does not exceed the normal range until there is a reduction 50-60% of glomerular filtration rate. Therefore, should be noted that urea and creatinine were normal and renal failure do not litter when values of urea and creatinine levels begin to increase more than 50-60% of kidney damage has occurred.

2 – The rate of urea serum

Increased serum urea independent of GFR
-Dehydration
State-catabolic
Diet rich in protein
-Glucocorticoids
-Tetracyclines
Decrease in urea serum independent of GFR
-Liver disease
"Malnutrition
"Diets low in protein
"Old age
3 – serum creatinine
Creatinine is far more useful clinical trial to evaluate the progression of kidney kidney. However, at least 50% of kidney function is lost before the increase of serum creatinine. Therefore, the normal creatinine level does not exclude renal failure.
Serial estimation of serum creatininine provides the best indication of the status of renal function in patients chronic renal insufficiency (CRI).
Creatinine is actually the product of muscle metabolism. Is freely filtered and is not reabsorbed, however small amount is eliminated by tubular secretion increases with dehydration overestimate GFR.
